Game is more than just a hobby or a job. It’s been a part of my life since I was a kid, and I’m just too lucky to create my own life.”

  • "Do you want to do something you don't like for your whole life?" My German professor said this to me when I entered the university freshman year. After 18 years of taking tests and valuing test scores only, this made me finally reconsider my life purpose other than test-taking.

I have been a fan of fantasy since I was a child. I was always lost in daydreams that I was a wizard who could turn imagination into reality. However, my dreams never came true. Then I was exposed to video games, which appeared like a ray of sunshine in my life because I could experience what I had imagined in my dreams. For example, the early Red Alert series allowed me to be a commander, and The Sims series offered me the opportunity to experience the world when I grew up.

As I have grown older and older, in addition to enjoying the fun of games, I have had the idea of modifying the game design. For the first time, I successfully installed a mod made by someone else for Red Alert 3 (RA3), which directly added the arms and buildings of an entire camp. After that, I began to consider how I could add the characters I designed to the game, which planted a seed for me to work in game design in the future.

While learning how to interact in the field of new media, I gained a deeper understanding of games. A game is not only a visual expression in the electronic area but a logic of dialogue. Designing games requires designers to have a conversation with the players. As designers, we constantly create an environment where players can resonate with us. Both formal elements and rules are essential to creating such an environment and testing and prototype iteration also serve this logical relationship. In addition, I have been exposed to brilliant indie games such as Inside and What Remains of Edith Finch. Both of them have excellent interaction design and sound and visual design, which made me more determined to set foot in games.

I love the movie Coco, an animation of DreamWorks Studios, and the view it conveys towards life: a person would exist before they are forgotten by anyone else. Therefore, I had a deeper understanding of my inner self through the process of making games. Flawless, a game I created based on my own growth and learning experience, was released on Steam. This game has been the first part of my portfolio, and it focuses on the relationship between parents' expectations and children's growth. Although it has been cliché, it not only became an opportunity for me to reconcile with my family on a lot of misunderstanding but also helped many players, especially those who have just become parents, to rethink their relationship with their children.

In the process of playing and making games, I have the answer to the meaning of my life. Games can be the expression of my worldview, my emotions, and even my wild imagination. I had become the wizard I dreamed of being when I was designing games. I can't wait to meet more senior wizards.

Other than Games?

I swim.

I sing,

and I perform it.

But the most important thing is that I take life seriously and love every minute of it.
